Compassionate, practical family law advice in Enfield and across London: divorce, finances, children arrangements and agreements, handled with care.

Family Law Support When You Need It Most

Family breakdown is one of the most stressful experiences anyone can face. Decisions made in the months after separation (about your home, your finances and, above all, your children) will shape your life for years to come. Our family law team at Kreston Solicitors combines legal precision with genuine empathy, guiding you towards outcomes that protect what matters most.

Based in Enfield and serving clients across North London and beyond, we act in divorce and dissolution, financial remedy proceedings, children arrangements, domestic abuse matters and pre- and post-nuptial agreements. Many of our solicitors are multilingual (including Turkish speakers) so you can discuss deeply personal matters in the language you are most comfortable with.

Divorce & Financial Settlements

Since the introduction of no-fault divorce, ending a marriage no longer requires blame, but the financial consequences of divorce remain as significant as ever. A divorce alone does not sever financial ties between spouses; without a sealed financial order, either party can bring a claim years later.

We advise on every aspect of financial remedy, including:

  • Division of the family home and other property, in the UK and abroad
  • Pension sharing and offsetting, often the most undervalued asset in a settlement
  • Spousal and child maintenance
  • Business interests and complex or hidden assets
  • Consent orders and clean-break agreements

Wherever possible we negotiate settlements without contested court proceedings, keeping costs proportionate and relationships workable, particularly important where children are involved.

Children Arrangements

When parents separate, the law's starting point is that the child's welfare is paramount. We help parents agree (or where necessary, ask the court to determine) where a child lives, how much time they spend with each parent, and specific issues such as schooling, relocation and holidays abroad.

Our team handles Child Arrangements Orders, Specific Issue Orders, Prohibited Steps Orders and applications for parental responsibility. We also advise grandparents and other family members seeking contact. We always encourage mediation and constructive dialogue first; when court proceedings are unavoidable, we prepare your case thoroughly and represent you robustly.

Domestic Abuse & Protective Orders

If you or your children are at risk, we can act quickly. We apply for Non-Molestation Orders and Occupation Orders (often on an urgent, same-week basis) to protect you from abuse and, where appropriate, regulate who may live in the family home. We understand how difficult it is to take this step, and we handle every case with discretion and sensitivity.

Pre- & Post-Nuptial Agreements

A well-drafted nuptial agreement is one of the most effective ways to protect pre-marital wealth, business interests, inheritances and children from previous relationships. While not automatically binding in England and Wales, courts will generally uphold an agreement that was entered into freely, with full financial disclosure and independent legal advice on both sides.

We draft and review pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements to the standard the courts expect, giving you the best possible prospect that your agreement will be respected if it is ever tested.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Under the no-fault divorce process, the minimum timescale is around 6-7 months, including the mandatory 20-week reflection period and the 6-week wait between conditional and final orders. Resolving finances can take longer, so we usually progress both in parallel.

Yes. Without a court-sealed consent order, your financial claims against each other remain open indefinitely, even after the divorce is finalised. A consent order records your agreement and, where appropriate, achieves a clean break.

Most cases settle without a final hearing. Courts expect parents to attempt mediation first (a MIAM is usually required before applying). We negotiate firmly on your behalf and only litigate when it is genuinely necessary.

There is no fixed formula. The court considers factors in section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, including needs, contributions, the length of the marriage and the welfare of any children. Equality is the starting point in longer marriages, but needs often justify a departure from it.

Not automatically, but following the Supreme Court's decision in Radmacher v Granatino, courts will normally give effect to an agreement freely entered into with full disclosure and independent advice, unless it would be unfair to do so. Proper drafting is essential.

Yes. Non-Molestation and Occupation Order applications can be made urgently, sometimes without notice to the other party. Breaching a Non-Molestation Order is a criminal offence. Contact us immediately if you are at risk.
